Q & A With Judy
How do you define hope?
I define hope that the future will be better, take one day at a time, and always believe/trust that God loves me and is ever mindful of my daily struggles and will help me through.
How do you find hope?
I find hope in looking out - reaching out - helping someone else. There are others out there that are struggling as well and perhaps do not have any support.
How do you carry on - more forward - during difficult times?
I think moving forward is what our Heavenly Father wants us to do. I have come to believe that our trials are gifts that help us grow and become more like Christ. When we have endured trying times, we are more prepared to reach out to others and help them on their journey.
What do you feel was your darkest moment and how did you come out of it?
The darkest part of the journey was the first part - coming to grips with the disease - educating myself and knowing how to move forward. It was difficult to know how to best assist my husband as the disease progressed. I came out of it by seeking as much information as I could and with a lot of help/support from others.
What advice do you have for others regarding "hope"?
My advice for others is to find joy in their journey. Keep your heart happy and reach out to others. Keep a prayer in your heart - I like to conclude my prayer each day with "God help me to touch one life today." Know that no matter what you are going through, there are others out there with something worse. Believe in yourself.
*Judy is actively involved in reaching out to other caregivers. She speaks to gerontology and social work classes to help them understand not only about the disease but also about the needs of the caregiver. She volunteers her time in helping other caregivers understand their needs and to find humor and joy in being a caregiver. I believe we are ALL caregivers as we each strive to give care and love to others each and every day.
